Hazrat Younus (A.S)

According to recorded history,Prophet Yunus A.S (Bible : Jonah) (a.s),son of Matta,was sent by Allah Subhanah to warn the inhabitant of a town called Nineveth was a very ancient town which is now no longer on the map.

 Its site is believed to be marked by the two mounds on the left bank of the river Tigris, opposite the city of present day Mosul (Iraq) on the right bank, about 230 miles north-north-west of the city of Baghdad. Nineveh was a very old Sumerian town, perhaps older than 3500 B.C. It became the capital of the famous Assyrian Empire. The first Assyrian Empire under Shalmaneser I, about 1300 B.C., became the supreme power in Western Asia. The second Assyrian Empire arose about 745 B.C., and Sennacherib (705-681 B.C.) beautified the town with many Public Works. It was destroyed by the Scythians (so-called Medes) in 612 B.C. If according to biblical records the date of Jonah were assumed to be about 800 B.C., it would be between the First and the Second Assyrian Empire; when the city was nearly destroyed for its sins, but on account of its repentance was given a new lease of glorious life in the Second Empire.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verse 98:

98 Why was there not a single township (among those We warned) which believed so its Faith should have profited it except the people of Yunus? When they believed We removed from them the Penalty of Ignominy in the life of the present world, and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 21 Surah Anbiyaa verse 87:

87 And remember Zun-nun (Prophet Yunus (a.s.s) when he departed in wrath: he imagined that We had no power over him!
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 21 Surah Anbiyaa verse 87:

87 .... But he (Prophet Yunus (a.s.)) cried through the depths of darkness "There is no god but Thou: Glory to Thee: I was indeed wrong!"

Yunus continued imploring his Lord and Creator, constantly repeating the above beautiful invocation.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 21 Surah Anbiyaa verse 88:

88 So We listened to him (Prophet Yunus (a.s.)) and delivered him from distress: and thus do We deliver those who have faith.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.127 Narrated by Abdullah

The Prophet (saws) said, "None has the right to say that I am better than Yunus bin Matta."
